Eggs

Critics of industrial egg farms have alleged that some farms have inhumane treatment of laying hens and that certain facilities are dirty, overcrowded and rife with disease. The recent massive egg recall due to a salmonella outbreak has served to highlight not only the problems within some of the US egg industry but also the issues with food safety regulation as a whole (see our Food Safety category for further information).

Where did Phil’s eggs actually come from?

The United States is the second largest producer of eggs after China. Our US supply map gives a small sampling of where some of the larger egg farms in the United States are located. We filmed our egg-laying and packing segment at Sunbest-Papetti egg farm in Villisca, IA. Café Hon gets their eggs from Baltimore’s Cloverland Dairy who sources their eggs from Lehman Eggs in Greencastle, PA.
